Sestercentennial, or Quarter Millennial. Nobody asked me but I personally like Quarter Millennial best of the three, but no matter because Semiquincentennial is what was chosen to mark the United States of America’s two hundred and fiftieth anniversary. What a ride. We have seen over the centuries, many highs, and many lows. Historic highs and lows, some shameful and some glorious to behold. We like most of the rest of the world, embraced slavery, but once we became a nation, we ended slavery in around eighty years. That’s pretty impressive considering the cost of it all. This particular piece is not about any of this however, because every nation has skeletons, every nation has sins, and only the foolish will deny this truth. We saved Europe twice, and single handily fought communism. We have our place in history as the most powerful and most compassionate country that has ever existed. We have sent billions of dollars in aid to countries who absolutely hate us , but still we sent aid and provided protection. I will not apologize for my country during this time of celebration. I will not apologize for my country’s wealth or appeal to immigrants searching for a better life. I will not apologize to the people in this country who are seeking to destroy this nation from the inside out. I am going to celebrate this land that I love, and I hope you will too. You are only two hundred and fifty years old once, Enjoy this time in history….We can always pick up the fight in about a week, so until then….
God Bless America.
