I am in an awkward place on this one. We live in a world that frowns on men having opinions about women’s issues. I think sexual assault should concern everyone, but it can’t become a wedge issue unless they can use it as a way of shutting all reason down in much the same way that racism is used to gain the upper hand, when hard facts won’t give you the victory you require. We have a problem here and there must be a consensus that will keep the issue focused on a solution, provided a solution is what we are seeking.
What exactly is the issue?
How have I been part of the problem?
How can I become part of the solution?
I suppose this is actually a rebuttal to Oprah speech at the Golden Globes so let me just lead with the punch line.
When you’re led by your heart and not your head, you are the fool they are looking for.
There, I said it. If the speech Oprah delivered at the Golden Globes left you in tears, you were thinking with your heart. Let me start out by saying that I didn’t watch the Golden Globes, and I don’t watch anything else dominated by that sort of thinking. Closed minded? You damn well better believe it. I have heard all this many times in the last sixty-one years and only the faces change. There was so much praise heaped upon Oprah after her speech last night that I had to watch it on YouTube, so I did, twice. She has a damn good speech writer. I want to be clear on this next point.
Liberals cannot survive without strife and division.
She did all that in her speech in a very calculating way. She is a much better speaker than the other O, and she doesn’t slide into a stuttering fit when she is off prompter. So what exactly was the purpose of her speech at the Golden Globes?
a. To accept the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement award.
b. To gin up the liberal base for the democrats.
Judging by all the headlines after the awards, I’m picking b. Is this really all it takes now for people to want you for president?
Just like every awards show for the last few years, this speech was about how bad it is to fight back when the media has you in it’s sights and how they won’t be victims anymore. Then talk about corruption and injustice and secrets and lies. I almost went into a Tourette’s tirade on that one. When this little talk got around to women’s treatment and the entertainment industry, I was waiting for her to in one form or another, cover those three questions I mentioned earlier.
I gathered from what I saw, that the issue was mistreatment and sexual abuse of women. I will tell you how she has been part of the problem because Jesus will come back before she ever will. There is a picture I have of Donald Sutherland, that I use from time to time. He is standing with his mouth opened wide, pointing and screaming, and it comes from a movie called The Body Snatchers. Where is the picture of Oprah pointing and screaming, and warning all the young girls that she claims she is so fond of that there is a snake in the industry like Harvey Weinstein? There is none. What does exist is plenty of pictures of them two rubbing all over each other. Shame on her and all the others that could have brought this into the light years and years ago. They have no shame. Hippocrates. Vipers. Where did the phrase directors couch come from? Everybody knew pretty much everything, pretty much all along, when it came to Harvey Weinstein. They will heap praise on themselves for turning on someone who can no longer help them but they will get none from me.If we are getting our moral direction from Hollywood, we are moving ever closer into darkness. The immoral, vomiting out their new found virtue. They were all dressed in black last night. Very courageous. Very fitting.
Now, How can I become part of the solution? Well, it will start by being honest enough to admit that this isn’t a new problem. This is as old as the human race and the root is our sin nature. Oprah won’t tell you that, but I will. I want my family to be shielded from all this sort of thing, but I know it’s out there in every profession. I have seen it in men and I have seen it in women, but much more in men. An ex talk show host / actress wont fix this problem in our country. Hell, she didn’t even try to fix it in her own profession. Some people are just a little too easy to manipulate. She is on a mission, and time will tell us all what all this is really about. As for us common folk, how about we watch out for each other and not let Hollywood, or liberals, or conservatives, or our sex, or color, or religion divide us. We are better than that.
