I have a train set that is almost as old as I am, and is priceless to me. The cardboard box that holds this train set is yellowed and in horrible condition after more than six decades, but the train, if you could see inside, is such beautiful workmanship. I think that we humans are a lot like that. At one time, the box that housed my train was new and freshly painted, and time withered it, and a pencil that is now decades gone, was used by me to poke a hole in the top. The scar of that decision can clearly be seen today. Once again I say that we are a lot like that. I suppose that what I am trying to say, more than anything, is that we are so much more than our container. Our container will wither away over time but its contents are eternal, and we are priceless to our Creator. We place far too much emphasis on the container, with almost no thought to content. Why? This is our distraction. This is our failure. A better investment would surely be in what won’t wither away, the eternal. So now I leave you with the very first Bible verse that I ever learned, and my teacher was my mamaw Davis….
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not parish, but have everlasting life.
Amen.
