It’s Sunday afternoon and I’m watching the Lions play the Packers in the rain, while drinking an ice cold beer from the comfort of my recliner. Like many Americans all around this deeply divided country, just under the surface, there is an uneasiness about our future. I have an uneasiness about my future. Tuesday is election day, and Tuesday I start a six day cruise. No matter who the winner is, I fully expect to return to a country on fire. Could any of the consequences of the election results have been avoided? I don’t believe that avoiding consequences were something that was sought after. I think consequences were built in as a punishment for independent thought. In an election with world wide implications, we have a candidate who never gathered enough votes to become a presidential candidate, but none of that matters. Not now, not anymore. No clear policy but plentiful policies that were embraced in the past, but that doesn’t matter, because she no longer embraces those policies. The free world is watching and waiting to see which direction we will go. Do we go back to sanity and proven policies or do we move into the unknown. All these consequences will be waiting for our return, but for now, it’s just going to be comforting to leave this country for awhile. Am I too old to learn a new language?
