There is a time for all things. A time for American greatness and a time of decline.
Ecclesiastes 3. We would do well to consider those words, but we won’t. We won’t give decline a second thought, but it’s here. It’s all around us, but we can’t see. Why? I think part of the answer is that we are a shortsighted people that spends far more time in meaningless pursuits than critical thought.
While one side celebrates things like body mutilation, men dressing like painted prostitutes to dance in front of innocent children, and angry protests that always seem to have a violent agenda, the other side loves to shout or display old preambles that lost their meaning long ago, and honestly think that everything was just fine three or four election cycles ago. Both sides firmly believe that this world would be far better off without the other side, and I agree with them both.
The first side is filled with talking points and self righteousness, running into hell’s hands as fast as they can go, while the second side is certain they are one election away from everything being right as rain. They are fools to each other but certainly not to themselves, and both are delusional. Eternally so. I cry for an age that will never return, and I regret being part of one of these sides for far longer than anyone should have, and that gives me the grace to understand the shallow thinking required to stay among these fools. My wish is that more will awaken and understand that we have far more in common with each other than those who manipulate us for power and profit.
Having said all that, I don’t see a scenario that will ever unite us, and if there is one, I would love to hear it.
