You know what I miss? The Today Show. I knew Katie was as liberal as a pour of bourbon in my back room, but none of that mattered… because she gave me enough facts to come to my own conclusions. I miss The Late Show. Actually, I miss the old David Letterman. The jokes were funny, and I loved the Top ten list. I went to see him twice. If he were pumping gas into the car next to me I wouldn’t make eye contact now. I miss football. I miss the old NFL in the same way I miss an old deceased family member, because I know in my heart that it’s gone for good. Sitcoms that are funny, dramas that don’t hammer race or gender or sexual orientation. Politicians who pretend to get along. Family members who never used their political affiliation as a weapon. I miss all that. I miss not using a pandemic to frighten good people into choosing sides. I miss not having sides, back when we were actually all in this together. Neighbors who were neighborly. People who would pray for you, and pray with you. I miss everything we have lost. And I think most people never give it a second thought. Now we just know too much about everybody, and most of what we know is very negative, because we never talk about anything positive. And to quote someone else that I miss…

And so it goes… Linda Ellerbee.
