To be sure, thoughts can be sinful, providing you believe in a higher power, but in a free society, you can’t make things people think criminal. The moment I become a criminal because of something I believe to be true, I am no longer free. And if I am not free to believe the things I do, I am a slave to majority opinion. Or government opinion, or who ever is the most powerful’s opinion. My thoughts, once they are written down, will be my accuser, and it’s a very scary world to live in, once thought holds the weight of action. What is the punishment for thoughtcrime? In Orwell’s 1984, the punishment is death, but not always right away. I think that is where the left would love to take us, always under the threat of whatever we fear the most.
