Someone that I follow on social media asked a question tonight that generated quite a few answers, but nobody that I read really seemed to grasp the question.
What do you think of when you think of blight?
Everyone’s answer depended on which party the person was affiliated with. Democrats, Republicans, Detroit, ect. I suppose one party or the other was a blight, or one city or another. We must walk away from this notion that everything would be fine if one group of people or another would just cease to exist.
I have said before and can’t be over stated, that there is a war going on all around us that we will never see. A spritual war, cleverly disguised as anything other than what it is. So to me, when I think of blight, I think of a kingdom, or a land, cursed for turning away from The Creator. I know the textbook definition, I’m giving you my heart felt definition. I won’t listen to your arguments of religion either. I have no faith in religion. I am as certain of a Creator as I am of anything that I hold dear, but I believe that He is calling us to salvation, not to become any particular denomination. We have a blight of love for our Creator.
We treat each other like we are all part of a video game, and points are scored by hurting and degrading the players that aren’t one of us. Except we aren’t in a video game. We are all humans, making human mistakes, and trying to maneuver around and manage our lives, while mean people make sport of us. There is video of a prominent TV personality having dinner in a restaurant. This person just lost his son to a drug overdose. Some young guy walks by him and says something like “I bet your son committed suicide just to get away from his dad.” Not an exact quote, but in the ballpark. Who does this to another human being? You could see that it pulled the heart right out of a grieving father. We have a blight of compassion.
Jesus was asked long ago, what was the greatest commandment. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. Then He said the second was like the first, and all the other commandments hung on the first two. Love your neighbor as yourself.
Blight.
