Wisdom seldom does anyone any good other than the person it comes to, and the older I get, the more I realize that wisdom, much like many other things, is in the eye of the beholder. I remember telling my children, Learn from other people’s mistakes because you don’t have time to make them all yourself. You may disagree, but when a one armed man tells me I’m holding a chainsaw wrong, I’m going to listen to what he has to say. We don’t tend to do that anymore. Listen. And because of that, there is a lot of folks walking around emotionally, with one arm.
There are a lot more wolves out there than you think there are, but the older you get, the easier they are to recognize, and you really can judge a man by his works.
You can do all the right things at all the right times, but unless you are very luck or very blessed, (witchever you prefer, although I don’t put much stock in luck), you are not going where you think you are. You would be foolish to not plan your future, but if you are unwilling to adapt to things that are out of your control, you are not going to have a very good time in this life. I never planned to be where I am right now, but I think that I am where God wants me to be. I read a quote from Corrie Ten Boom long ago, that I thought I understood, only to realize much later a deeper meaning … hold on to things loosely so it won’t be so painful when it is taken from you. The trouble is, that those things you hold tightly are usually the things you care for the most, making it an ever painful process destined to bring eventual pain.
So hopefully we continue to grow, spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally, all while trying to navigate in a world that holds few of the views that you hold dear. In the end, I suppose this might be considered gibberish, but please remember, One man’s junk just may be another man’s treasure.
