Following.

I think it’s built into our DNA. And we are constantly making horrible choices. If you believe in evolution, you can see it in all the species. Leadership is taken by force and usually held the same way. Maybe leading is part of our DNA also, I don’t know, but I do know this…. it’s rarely surrendered peacefully. Did you know that when a hive’s queen stops doing her job properly, her followers kill her. And you thought murder was restricted to humans. Here in America, we just hold a series of congressional hearings, slap them on the ass and send them on their merry way, usually with a book deal.

I believe in a Creator that placed into each one of us, the need to search out something, or someone greater than ourselves. Someone to follow. I believe that through our fall, that need became corrupted. I don’t believe every leader is corrupt, but I do believe that the very thing that drives men to lead, has a constant pull toward corruption. Some resist this pull, and some do not, and power attracts the most evil among us.

So, it seems to me that we live in a world filled with very gullible, mostly honest folks, looking for something to hitch our horse to, and with very little information, we do exactly what we were designed to do…. Follow. So, less than the best among us, come up with catchy slogans and well tested phrases, all designed to attract us. And the leaders begin to use force of one sort or another, but unlike the animal kingdom, they don’t do their own fighting. The followers do that for them. The followers become very segregated, in that holding thoughts contrary to their leaders is frowned upon, and sometimes even punished in one form or another. So we become very tribal.

As humbly as my nature will allow, I must tell you that I do not trust your leader, and his/her party. Not one inch.

In all honesty, I don’t trust mine either.

You are known by the company that you keep.

Be very careful who you place your trust in, and very, very careful who you follow.
