Many will disagree with me on this, and I know there are exceptions, but as a rule, I don’t think people change much. In the words of one famous sailor, I yam what I yam. And so are you. I don’t think that I’m a very caring person. The change in me personally, is that I want to be. Honestly, that wasn’t the case when I was younger, but over the years, a Higher Power has put it in my heart to go against my nature. Grace, I believe.
Wars have started over less than what divides this country right now, and there are two old sayings that are on my mind. I’m tempted to combine them.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
Don’t beat a dead horse.
No, I think they are too different in meaning to combine. Both phrases apply to us, but like everything else, we would fight to the death on which one fits us. I have such a hard time both with sleeping dogs and dead horses, and so do many of you.
What is so bad about beating a dead horse? Well among other things, it’s a waste of time. No matter what I do to that creature, in the end, It is in a state of decay… unchanged, and likely the stench has affected me in a negative way. Don’t be the horse, and don’t be the one wasting your time on that horse either.
The dog, on the other hand is no trouble to anyone. Not while he is sleeping. We have forgotten how to mind our own business, and have replaced it with cruelty. Beware of that dog. You have no idea of what he is capable of.
