Have you ever started a journey with no idea of the gravity of where you were heading? Almost everywhere that I ended up, started out without a clue of where I was going. I am not saying that I never had a plan. I suppose what I am saying is that none of my plans took me where I was planning on going. That is a good thing, because where I ended up was way better than what I had in mind.
Something that I did years ago has been brought to my attention two or three times in the past few weeks and it is time to unburden myself from my sometimes hard to understand sense of humor. It has gotten me into trouble many times in the past and most likely will again.
We were riding around in Nashville one day and I was trying to keep my daughters occupied, so out of the blue I said,” See that building? Me and Lynn built that.” It was an all glass high rise just past what was at the time Opryland. I’m sure I had a great story to go along with the building, but here’s the thing, They believed that I built that building for decades. It was kinda like Ricky Bobby, where he based his entire life on something his dad told him while he was high! If you’re not first, you’re last.
Just for the record…. I wasn’t high.
Well, before my first grandson was born, I was asked what I wanted to be called. Honestly, without a whole lot of thought, I said,“Big Daddy.”
For better or for worse, I will be Big Daddy until the day that I die. I now have two grandsons and one granddaughter and I wonder what it will be that they all sit around laughing about, that I have told them….
I hope it’s something good!
