I know what you are thinking.
- Who is Robb Stark?
- That is a long title.
Well, let me lead with my apologies for the long title, I’m sorry. As for who Robb Stark is, I may give out a spoiler or two in my explanation so look away if you feel the need.
Westeros is one of the continents in a book called A Song of Fire and Ice. The Game of Thrones.
Robb Stark had four of the seven kingdoms in Westeros fighting for him and he never lost a battle. He never suffered heavy losses and it was only a matter of time until he would unite the seven kingdoms as king of all Westeros. In Westeros, the good guys don’t always win. The best army doesn’t always take the field. Scheming, dishonest people, searching for an opportunity to gain power or position, can cause otherwise strong alliances to melt away. He was murdered by members of his own alliance. Unbeaten on the battlefield but not all battles are fought on the battlefield. Sometime your enemies are flying the same banner that you fly.
So what does a story about honor and betrayal and dragons and civil war among kingdoms have to do with anything? I don’t know. Maybe power isn’t what you think it is. While kings and Lords are busy trying to hold everything together, people in shadows are undermining everything trying to be done. That while you might have a great plan, many will fight you to your face or behind your back and things will never turn out like you plan. In short, you can’t please everybody. There is a reason why kings have tasters.
Our president would do well to watch this series.
