There are a couple of rules about blogging that I have learned from other bloggers. Don’t discuss politics or religion. Just so you know, I don’t care too much for rules, unless of course they come from a higher power. So, if it isn’t offensive to you…..
What is your favorite story from the Old Testament? Who is your favorite character? I have my favorite and his name was Elijah. He lived in the Northern Kingdom during the reign of Ahab and he was a real live superhero. What was his power? The hand of The Creator of the Universe was on him and everyone knew it. His arch enemy was the queen of Ahab who’s name was Jezebel. Elijah even had a sidekick of sorts, Elisha. Its all in 1 KINGS, starting in chapter 17 and if you believe, it is amazing. It’s amazing even if you don’t believe. He walked onto the scene and told Ahab that it was not going to rain anymore. It isn’t even going to dew anymore until I say so. Right. It didn’t rain though, not for over three years.
People overlook something very important here. People were starving to death because of the drought and starving people do unthinkable things. the King wasn’t happy and neither was his Queen. Elijah challenged four hundred and fifty prophets who worshiped Ba’al to a dual. One against 450. He let them dance, shout to their god and cut themselves with blood everywhere gushing to get Ba’al’s attention and Elijah was taunting them. Maybe your god is on the toilet, or sleeping! Maybe he is out of town!
Now when I said that it was four hundred and fifty against Elijah, that part was accurate but it wasn’t just Elijah they were dueling. Elijah was only relaying a message from the Creator. As it turned out, the God of Abraham, Isaac and of Israel is all you need. Fire fell from Heaven, on a sacrifice that had been soaked in water just so nobody could deny what they saw and that fire consumed everything. Sacrifice, alter, water, everything. People, destroy these deceivers of Ba’al, and King, hurry up and get home because the rain is coming! Elijah outran the Kings chariot all the way home.
I love this story and the Old Testament is filled with so many. This is one of my favorites but honestly, there are so many. I hope you will give it a read and see how it turns out. Just for the record, Jezebel was not happy.
