Its way- back machine time…. July 11,1804. there was actually a time when if you felt you had been wronged by another man, you could bring the situation to an honorable conclusion. I once thought it barbaric, but now I understand that these men had something that they valued more than life. Honor.We are far too evolved to be honorable anymore. That is precisely why we are not appalled when our government lies to us. We are not honorable so why would we demand that our public servants be honorable. They have become lofty. I don’t believe servants should have that much power. Do you?

So,1804. Hamilton finally ran his mouth one too many times and the vice president after a decade and a half of dealing with one insult after another,decided to shoot him in the gut. Hamilton shot first, up into the air and I am sure there is a lesson to be learned here somewhere. Did the taunting stop? It did by Hamilton. I think that was what Burr was “shooting”  for.

Alrighty then. Step back into the way-back machine  and let ride her back on to  right now. Now, who out there thinks the bull shit level would drop somewhat if you always had that possibility floating around in the back of your head that just maybe, one of your colleagues might just call you out to apologize in public or defend your honor  in a duel?

Honestly, nobody wants those  days to return but it did demand civility. All we have now are two sides that don’t mind lying about each other and when confronted, it ends in accusations by both sides that amount to each side accusing the other in an endless round of lies. Why do we allow the lies?
