I am not sure if I got grandfathered in or not but apparently if I didn’t make the cut, I have been doing something wrong for much of my life completely unaware. Looking back, I can now explain many of those blank stares and angry looks I have been getting for years. Mansplaining. In my sheltered world, I thought maybe it was in regard to Ricky Ricardo and Lucy but no, and here is where research is vitally important, the meaning has evolved over time. I swear I hope I have this right…. originally it was used when a man who knew less on a topic than a woman tried to talk her down to prove his point. Whut?
I have been doing this for decades. And in my defense, not just with women either . I have had many bosses who also did this to me so were they bosssplaining? And now that I think about it, I was looking at them just like….
Well anyway, now it’s almost any discussion on women’s issues that a man has an opinion on. Truthfully, if a man has his mouth open he is mansplaining if a woman is in the room. No woman in the room, he is just talking. Now women do the same thing to us and guys, let’s be honest, we have a name for that too!
I said all of that to say this, and I know that this is mansplaining but I’m not trying to be condescending when I say this, the funniest thing I have seen in years is a bunch of middle-aged women walking around with vajayjays on their head screaming about being nasty. Us guys would never try anything like that! But, and I say but…. if we did, it would be a contest of who had the biggest headpiece. Nobody wants to see a group of middle-aged nasty folks. We should be a beacon for the youth. Maybe in this matter we should act our age. And while I love watching crazy people do insane things, I think we need to bring back and reacquaint ourselves with a few words.
Vulgarity.
Modesty.
Integrity.
Role model.
